WHO HEAR FOR YOU HELPS
Primary beneficiaries:
12-18 year old Australians who are deaf or hard of hearing-who communicate orally or in Auslan; One in four are at risk of mental health issues. High costs of supporting their hearing loss also contribute to financial challenges for their families.
Secondary beneficiaries:
Volunteer mentors – young adults 18 – 35 years who are deaf or hearing impaired and trained as mentors in the Hear from You program curriculum; Parents of participants (12 – 18 yr old deaf teens) – on average most parents of mentees have their hearing and have difficulty understanding and managing their child’s challenges
