The transition between primary and high school can be tough at the best of times – and if you’re deaf or hard of hearing, you’ll be faced with a whole extra set of challenges. The good news? You’re not alone. At Hear For You we all remember how nerve-wracking it is to start high school, and we’ve designed this program to help make things easier for you.

Program duration: Two sessions (4-hour Year 6 session, 5-hour Year 7 session)

Location: Sydney, Melbourne and Brisbane (all in central locations)

NDIS hours: 4 max

Perfect for: Year 6 & 7 students (and their parents)

Upcoming dates: View the calendar

How it works: Designed specifically for deaf and hard of hearing kids moving into high school, Primary2Secondary is made up of two sessions: one when you’re at the end of Year 6, and one when you’ve moved into Year 7.

In the first session, we help you get prepared for everything that’s about to happen, from making new friends to dealing with multiple teachers and classrooms. Once you’ve made the leap into high school, our mentors help you deal with all the new stuff that’s happening – both school and social related (hey, they’re both important).

Cost:
NDIS funded amount – $176.76 (3 hours)
Non-NDIS funded – $25 to secure place then HFY will work to secure funding to cover cost for teenager to attend.
Actual costs to host the workshop $250 each participant.

Payment options:

  • Personal payment upfront
  • Through your NDIS plan/funding (find more info about this here)
  • If you’re experiencing financial hardship, you can apply to be part of our Community Fundraising Program, where we will work with you to fundraise through your local community clubs (RSLs, Rotary, Lions, Apex, etc.) To find out more about this option, just email us.

Other details:

Parents are also welcome to attend this session (hey, someone’s gotta drive!). If yours want to tag along, be nice and let them – you’d be surprised how many questions they probably have too.
