Claire, QLD Mentor
Claire has a profound sensorineural hearing loss in her left ear and a high-frequency loss in her right ear. With a single-sided hearing loss, Claire was only able to depend on her right ear to hear through school and at all times was the only deaf student at her schools. She didn’t let her hearing loss stop her from enjoying her love of music, taking up playing the violin (tucked under her deaf ear) as a challenge, as well as competing in Irish Dancing competitions. Three years ago Claire received a cochlear implant for her left ear and now enjoys the benefit of sound through both ears. Claire is a full-time PhD student at the University of Queensland.
