Just like our flagship mentoring workshop, this two-day ‘blast’ focuses on connecting deaf and hard of hearing teenagers with inspiring mentors who have loads of stories to share. Over two days, we explore different aspects of living as a deaf teenager, giving you the chance to exchange ideas and experiences with people who just ‘get it’. For those living in rural and regional areas, it’s a great chance to meet like-minded people in real life, too!
Program duration: Two full days (usually over one weekend)
Location: Rural & Regional NSW, Victoria, Queensland (main town locations)
NDIS hours: 16
Perfect for: High school students who are deaf or hard of hearing, with oral communication
Upcoming dates: View the calendar
How it works: Every teenager gets placed into a year group (7&8, 9&10 and 11&12), and assigned two mentors (one male, one female). This means at most, there’s one mentor per 4 students. There’s plenty of discussion and practical activities, which are done as a group, in pairs and one-on-one with a mentor.
Throughout the program, each group will choose a range of topics to explore, such as:
NDIS funded amount – $942.72 (16 hours)
Non-NDIS funded – $100 to secure place then HFY will work to secure funding to cover cost for teenager to attend.
Acutal costs to host the workshop for Hear For You is $1,000 each teenager.
