New for 2015 – Mentoring for NSW Metropolitan University students
Hear For You will be hosting a University Mentoring Program for 1st/2nd year NSW undergraduate university students who are Deaf, Hearing Impaired, or Hard of Hearing.
These workshops are an opportunity for these university students to meet, discuss with and seek advice from mentors who are also Deaf, Hard of Hearing, or Hearing impaired just like them.
The topics covered are, but not necessarily limited to:
– University challenges and solutions
– How is life after school?
– Navigating the workplace, during and post University
– Meeting new people who have never met a deaf person before and making new friends
There will be two workshops in 2015 during Weeks 3 and 7 of Semester 1. They will be held in mid-late afternoon in recognition of how busy university schedules can be!
The cost will be $500 per person which covers communication accessibility such as live captioning, Auslan interpreting, venue hire, resources, materials and food for the duration of the workshops. If you have trouble covering the cost, please let us know as we can help with approaching your university’s Disability Support Services to request their help in meeting the costs. In the future, the plan is if you are eligible, then the NDIS will help cover this.
