Governance

Our programs are monitored and evaluated by the Board of Directors. The Program Manager is responsible for ensuring that each mentor is appropriate to work with young people. The Program Manager ensures that the contexts, in which the program is conducted, are appropriate and sensitive to the needs of the participants.

The structure of the program is developed following advice from educators and experts in the area of mentoring. Those involved in the program coaching will be appropriately qualified and trained.

Selection and Participation

Particular care is taken when matching mentors and mentees, especially those considered by parents to have social emotional issues relating to their deafness.

Prior to enrolling in the program the young person and their parent/s or guardian will meet with the Program Manager to discuss the needs of the participant and the family and what their expectations are of the program. It is important at this stage for Hear For You to point out the various responsibilities of each person involved and the protocols which are followed in terms of concerns which might be raised.

Protocols will be established which outline the steps to take if a young person is identified as exhibiting inappropriate behaviour. Such protocols will identify referrals to appropriate professionals.
